Things to Do in Kobarid: History, Food & Emerald Water
Kobarid blends WWI history, a standout food scene and the Soča's prettiest water. The award-winning museum, Kozjak Waterfall, the Napoleon Bridge and more.
Kobarid is the valley’s heart — small, walkable, and packing history, food and natural beauty into a tight radius. If Bovec is for adrenaline, Kobarid is for substance and ease.
History
- The Kobarid Museum — opened 1990, winner of the 1993 Council of Europe Museum Prize — is the best introduction to the WWI Soča Front anywhere.
- Walk up to the Italian Charnel House above town, the octagonal ossuary holding over 7,000 soldiers.
- Pick up a section of the Walk of Peace straight from town.
Water
- The Napoleon Bridge arches over the deepest emerald pools — iconic, and the trailhead for Kozjak Waterfall (a 25–30 minute walk to its cave chamber).
- Calm stretches nearby give safe wild swimming in summer.
